“Over thirty nights, every night, I photograph the possum jumping outside my parent's house as we wait during the last month of Narelle's pregnancy for our first son to be born.” From Parke’s 2023 book Monument, his work thematically ping-pongs between jubilation of everyday life and the looming threat of societal collapse. This unfolds in his poetic trademark of overexposed figures that appear simultaneously angelic and ghostly, the stark contrast within each photograph, and his conservative use of midtones.
